Dragons Dogma

Scoring Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma video game trailer

Though not a gamer myself, I really enjoy the genre of video game trailers – full of action, suspense, cliffhangers, and surreal panoramas. Along with composer and guitarist Michael Elsner, I just finished writing the trailer for Capcom’s 2012 release, Dragon’s Dogma.

The piece is a dark grungy set of overlapping textures, featuring a brooding overdriven guitar, a weirdly filtered piano, some punctuating orchestral hits and swells, and a driving beat created by some filtered loops laced around a live drum kit.

Although I haven’t played the game yet, I’m very impressed with the design; the visuals are stunning.

I applaud @NI_News for this open community update on their current product line and roadmap for the future. As someone who uses Kontakt on a daily basis, this is really exciting:

Curious to see where this ends up. Desert island selection, and you can only listen to one, and the other doesn’t exist:

Some wonderful moments from @eltonofficial and Bernie Taupin receiving the #GershwinPrize this week. Fantastic performances from @Metallica, @brandicarlile, @charlieputh, @jonimitchell, and more.
