Skylights

Skylights: Adventure Trailers for Family and Fantasy

The new trailer music release in the SonicTremor line has just hit the airwaves. Skylights is a bold collection of twelve new pieces of music crafted for motion picture advertising specific to the genres of family, children, adventure, and fantasy. I co-wrote many of these pieces with Michael Elsner, and they span the stylistic gamut from orchestral over to pop, and sometimes morph between those two poles.

For this project, we recorded a string section in Greece to overlay the elements recorded in our studios in the US, and the live orchestra greatly enhanced the expressiveness of the pieces.

Here’s the official PR writeup:

Adventures through magical and wondrous worlds await those with the courage and strength to explore them. This is the essence of skyLIGHTS: Adventure Trailers for Family and Fantasy. Full of exciting and uplifting orchestral themes interwoven with elements of modern pop, skyLIGHTS encompasses all that is action and adventure in the family and fantasy realms. From playful and animated ukulele, mandolin, piano and glockenspiel hooks to epic orchestral builds, titanic melodies, and dramatic pounding percussion, skyLIGHTS is a modern take on the Family Adventure genre.

An important career PSA for my fellow musicians: tell people about your passions. Tell people about your goals. Do not be shy about the gigs you dream about. You never know who has the ability to put you on a path that accomplishes them, if they were made aware.

I'm just saying, the incredibly useful Recut video cutting tool is on sale today. This has saved me untold hours of tedious manual labor:

This video is a masterclass in taking "I don't have any inside info, but the next Mac will be faster and have more cores" and stretching it to 11 minutes.
